Zeynep Öykü is one of the foremost harpists and harp teachers in Turkey.
Having struggled to follow her passion in a country where access to teachers, harps, music and even strings were scarce, from an early age she has strived to change this reality. Teaching privately since 2009, she started the first independent harp course in the country in 2011. Today, she continues to teach in her own studio, making the harp available to people from a wide range of backgrounds and age groups.
In order to introduce the harp to a wider audience, she has prepared the first and only radio show about the harp as part of the independent radio Acik Radyo. The recordings of this one year long project can be accessed online at 47tel2el.zeynepoyku.com.
Zeynep Öykü has collaborated with several different musicians and groups in vastly different musical styles. Her final solo project "Baroque Harp" is a mixture of solo harp music and story telling. By using the power of stories, Zeynep Öykü introduces Baroque music and composers sometimes to classical music or harp enthusiasts, and sometimes to an audience that has perhaps never heard a harp or listened to classical music until that moment. Since 2016 the "Baroque harp" project has been traveling around Turkey, often becoming the first time a harpist has visited a particular city.
